An archive designed to feel physically unstable

Kinetic Objects documents experimental furniture and small-run artefacts. Instead of presenting them in a neutral catalogue, the interface behaves like a workbench: objects overlap, details expand and navigation responds to rhythm.

The challenge: preserving the evidence of making

The studio wanted to show finished objects without erasing prototypes, mistakes and material tests. We treated every project as a sequence rather than a single hero image, connecting sketches, moving studies and final pieces in one continuous archive.

The visual direction borrows from workshop markings and product photography, then disrupts that precision with unstable scale and abrupt transitions.

Movement is information, not decoration

Transitions explain relationships between objects, editions and makers. Motion is quick, tactile and slightly imperfect, reinforcing the studio’s interest in process rather than polished product theatre.

Every interaction was tested against a simple rule: if removing the motion also removed meaning, it stayed. Everything else was reduced or discarded.

A flexible catalogue for objects still evolving

The final system combines digital art direction, interaction design, motion principles and a flexible catalogue structure. Makers can connect editions, materials and experiments without duplicating content.

The archive now works equally well as a research tool, a sales context and an ongoing record of the studio’s practice—alive enough to invite exploration, structured enough to remain useful.
