A cultural identity that never stands still
Parallax needed an identity capable of holding exhibitions, conversations and digital programmes without flattening them into one visual voice. We built a system around collision: sharp typography, shifting fields and a mark that behaves differently at every scale.
The challenge: one institution, many voices
The foundation works with artists, researchers and local communities. Its previous communication treated every programme in the same way, making radically different events feel interchangeable. Our first task was to define what had to remain recognisable and what could change.
Interviews and archive workshops revealed a useful tension: Parallax needed the authority of an institution without behaving like one. That contradiction became the central idea of the identity.
The system behaves like a curatorial tool
A strict grid holds the programme together while colour, scale and image treatment are allowed to misbehave. The result feels coherent without becoming predictable, giving the internal team enough structure to publish quickly.
We created three modes for the system: institutional, programme-led and experimental. Each mode shares the same typographic skeleton, but changes density, colour and image behaviour according to context.
From launch to everyday use
The launch system covered strategy, naming architecture, visual identity, motion principles and the first digital platform. Templates were tested with the internal team during a live programme week, then simplified around the decisions they made most often.
The result is not a fixed look. It is a set of recognisable behaviours that allows Parallax to remain coherent while every exhibition retains its own point of view.
